When Aisha Falode was inaugurated as the Board Chairperson of Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) in October 2017, it did not come to many sports enthusiasts, particularly football followers as a surprise based on her pedigree in the sport industry.
Interestingly, the overwhelming success of the just concluded NWFL Championship Shield, which held at the Soccer Temple, Agege, Lagos between Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia and Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt simply justified Falode’s choice to lead the NWFL.
The championship which was won by the Port Harcourt side (4-3 penalties) on March 4, 2018 was the inaugural women championship in Nigeria between the winners of the Aiteo Cup and the winners of the NWFL – while Angels won the Aiteo Cup, Amazons won the league.
